Abstract


This research explains the text structure, discourse practices, and sociocultural practices in discourse applied through memes. The purpose of this study is to describe the micro, mesostructural, and macrostructural dimensions in memes on the MRCI Facebook Page and use these research findings as alternative teaching materials for anecdotal texts in the tenth grade. The type of research used is qualitative with the critical method of Norman Fairclough's discourse analysis approach. The data source for this research is the MRCI Facebook page. The data in this study consist of words and images written in the memes as well as the context found within the memes. Data was collected using documentation techniques and analyzed using a phenomenological approach. The results and discussion describe several aspects. First, the microstructure dimension focuses on the text within the memes. Second, the mesostructural dimension focuses on the production, consumption, and distribution processes of the text in the memes. Third, the macrostructural dimension focuses on the social context in the memes. The discourse in memes on the MRCI Facebook Page is utilized as alternative teaching materials for anecdotal texts in the tenth grade.
