Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterized by irreversible airway narrowing and chronic inflammation due to cigarette smoke exposure and smoking, one of its main causes, induces systemic oxidative stress. Objective: To evaluate the effect of Papua red fruit (Pandanus conoideus Lam.) oil on serum MDA and SOD levels in rats exposed to cigarette smoke. Methods: This experimental study used a Post-test Only Control Group Design, the research subjects used were 25 male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus; n = 5 per group). Group C− received standard feed without cigarette smoke exposure or Pandanus conoideus Lam. oil supplementation. Group C+ was exposed to cigarette smoke for 30 days without supplementation, whereas groups T1–T3 received the same cigarette smoke exposure followed by oral administration of Pandanus conoideus Lam. oil for 7 days at doses of 0.3, 0.6, and 1.2 mL/kg BW/day, respectively. Results: Treatment in groups T1, T2, and T3 increased SOD levels compared to C+, with values of 8.20 ± 0.13 U/mL, 7.04 ± 0.62 U/mL, and 8.50 ± 0.21 U/mL, respectively, and reduced MDA levels to 1.53 ± 0.23 μmol/L, 1.52 ± 0.91 μmol/L, and 0.55 ± 0.01 μmol/L, respectively. Conclusion: Pandanus conoideus Lam. oil supplementation reduced serum MDA levels in cigarette smoke-exposed rats but showed no consistent dose-response pattern in SOD. Further studies are needed to confirm its antioxidant effects.
