Abstract
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) play a crucial role in national economic growth, particularly in the food and beverage sector, which serves as the main economic backbone. Besides creating employment opportunities, SMEs also make significant contributions to economic expansion. The quality of human resources is a key factor in determining SME success. Therefore, enhancing human resource quality is essential for improving SME performance. This study aims to analyze the role of commitment as a mediator between compensation and organizational learning in SME performance. The study sampled 160 SMEs, each employing a minimum of 10 employees. The analytical methods employed included multivariate analysis and the Sobel test for mediation analysis. Results indicate that commitment mediates the relationship between organizational learning and SME performance. However, commitment does not mediate the relationship between compensation and SME performance, possibly due to the low compensation received by employees, thereby reducing their level of commitment. These findings have important theoretical implications and provide valuable insights for enhancing overall SME performance.
