About the Journal
Journal of Urban Sociology (JUS) (ISSN: 2620-5211 | e-ISSN: 2656-3339) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal employing a double-blind peer review process. Established in 2018, JUS was founded in collaboration with the Ikatan Sosiologi Indonesia (ISI) and the Asosiasi Program Studi Sosiologi Indonesia (APSSI) as part of a collective effort to advance sociological scholarship in Indonesia and beyond. JUS aims to provide an academic platform for the publication of original ideas and research in sociology, with a primary focus on the analysis of social life in urban societies and communities undergoing processes of urbanization. The journal conceptualizes “urban” not merely as a geographical space, but as a social context that reflects modernity, social differentiation, power relations, and structural transformation within contemporary societies.
The scope of the Journal of Urban Sociology includes, but is not limited to, urban and community sociology, social inequality, poverty, multiculturalism, identity, power relations, gender, environmental issues, and social transformation across diverse social settings. The journal encourages critical, interdisciplinary, and context-sensitive approaches to enrich scholarly understanding of the complexity of urban issues at local, national, and global levels.
JUS is published biannually (April and October) by the Sociology Laboratory, Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya, Indonesia. All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening to assess their relevance to the journal’s focus and scope as well as their compliance with the author guidelines. Manuscripts that pass this stage are reviewed by at least two independent reviewers through a double-blind peer review process. Authors are required to revise their manuscripts in accordance with reviewers’ comments before final acceptance.
Before submission, authors are advised to ensure that their manuscripts align with the aims and scope of JUS, are written in English (American English), follow the instructions provided in the Author Guidelines, and use the official article template.
