FOCUS & SCOPE

The Journal of Urban Sociology (JUS) is a scientific journal published biannually by the Sociology Laboratory, Department of Sociology, Universitas Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya. JUS focuses on the development of sociological knowledge through the publication of original research and critical analyses addressing social dynamics in urban and urbanizing societies. JUS positions "urban" as a sociological context that reflects processes of modernity, social differentiation, inequality, and structural transformation. Accordingly, the journal welcomes studies examining social issues within urban, peri-urban, and community settings, as well as comparative analyses across diverse social contexts.

The scope of JUS includes, but is not limited to:

  • Urban and community sociology
  • Social inequality, poverty, and marginalization
  • Politics, power relations, and governance
  • Culture, identity, and multiculturalism
  • Religion and social life
  • Gender and family relations
  • Environment and urban sustainability
  • Social change and transformation
